While Red King is a truly vicious brute—a bully and\u003cbr\u003eone of the series\u0026amp;#39; ultimate villains—I always found Seabozu to be far more deserving of\u003cbr\u003esympathy than fear.\u003cbr\u003eI have always believed that the name \u0026amp;quot;Seabozu\u0026amp;quot; was inspired by the Japanese yōkai Umibōzu\u003cbr\u003e(\u0026amp;quot;Sea Monk\u0026amp;quot;). In Japanese folklore, the Umibōzu is a gigantic spirit that emerges from the ocean\u003cbr\u003eto attack ships at sea. The name always felt absolutely fitting for this zombie-like monster.\u003cbr\u003eSeabozu is an undead monster who is accidentally brought to Earth by a rocket from the\u003cbr\u003e\u0026amp;quot;Graveyard of Monsters\u0026amp;quot; in Episode 35. Like many kaiju, he initially goes on a destructive\u003cbr\u003erampage. Eventually, however, the Science Patrol discovers that all he truly wants is to return to\u003cbr\u003ehis grave in space.\u003cbr\u003eAs a child, I remember being a little disappointed by Seabozu\u0026amp;#39;s somewhat childlike and\u003cbr\u003ehumorous behavior in the episode—I preferred my monsters to be a bit more ferocious. At the\u003cbr\u003esame time, though, I completely fell in love with Tsuburaya\u0026amp;#39;s wonderfully bizarre skeletal\u003cbr\u003ecreature design. More importantly, I was deeply moved by the dark, tragic fact that all Seabozu\u003cbr\u003ereally wanted was to return to his grave—to the land of the dead. That heartbreaking\u003cbr\u003emotivation made him one of the most misunderstood kaiju in the entire series.\u003cbr\u003eWhen it came time to choose the next figure in the Ultraman Kaiju Remix line after Red King,\u003cbr\u003emy friend Kaz at Acro suggested Seabozu. He felt the character perfectly matched the undead\u003cbr\u003eanatomical details that have become one of my trademarks as a sculptor.\u003cbr\u003eThis time, I also wanted to reinterpret Seabozu\u0026amp;#39;s attitude and pose.\u003cbr\u003eWhat if he were absolutely furious about being dragged back from the Graveyard of Monsters?\u003cbr\u003eWhat if, before returning to his eternal resting place, he wanted to unleash as much destruction\u003cbr\u003eupon humanity as possible?\u003cbr\u003eI found that idea fascinating, and it became the foundation for his pose.
