Comment from James Groman
------
I first saw the great 1954 film “Creature from the Black Lagoon” (an anaglyph 3D movie!) at a local movie theater. I was still a child when I first saw “The Great Amazonian Half-Fish” (an anaglyphic 3D film!) at a local movie theater.
For weeks after seeing the film, I could not get the images out of my head and was eager to talk to someone about it.
The design and modeling of the half-fish man and his rubber suit fascinated me as a young child.
As the years went by, I had the opportunity to sculpt a sea creature inspired by “The Half-Fish Man.
At the time, my career in toy design was beginning to gain recognition and I was able to spend more time working on my own Gill Beast.
I showed the finished product to various companies, and was thrilled when ACRO, a Japanese soft vinyl company, showed a great deal of interest in my work. I had long been familiar with ACRO's impressive lineup of remixed Ultra monsters (Kaiju Remix Series).
The name of the work is “Namazu,” the Lord of the Deep Sea.
The name comes from the legendary creature known throughout Japan as the Great Catfish, which is said to cause earthquakes and tsunamis.
The catfish is feared in folklore as an extremely ferocious and terrifying beast. ......
At last, “Gill Beast : Namazu” - its true form is revealed!
